Captain recalls Lake Superior disaster and rescue

Captain Albert Stiglin of the Henry Steinbrenner, bound for Lorain, described the sinking in a 60 mph gale as a nightmare in a black night of rain and hail. He and 13 crewmen were saved. 11 died and six are missing as nine bodies were recovered near Isle Royale.

Government aims to match spending with income by mid-1954
