The Elyria Board of Education approved eight new elementary teachers as replacements for resignations and to finish college training. Several current staff will depart at year end including Mary Treece Marjorie Vorech Dora Rockwood Titus Leota Catanese Nancy Pond and Jean Compton. The board also reemployed Della Harding and hired Harold Wilson to fill a Washington Junior High vacancy after Philip Hofmanns death.

Plans for Elyrian Summer School Submitted to Board
Assistant High School Principal George Miraben sent the Summer School plan to the Elyrian school board last night. Miraben will direct the seven week program from June 12 to July 28 with sessions 8 to 12:30 daily Monday through Saturday. Courses include English I IV Latin Algebra I Solid Geometry Social Problems History Typing Business Machines Geography Law and Mathematics at ten dollars per subject.

President Truman nominated John F. Shumay to be Avon postmaster succeeding C J Wilford who retired two years ago. Shumay, 60, a Case School graduate and civil engineer, has worked as cost accountant at Mahiana Plumbing Co in Cleveland and lives with a cousin in Avon. Body Identified As Lost Steward
A body found near a woods in Ohio was identified as John Harris from the Ohio State University. Harris, a Pan Am steward, died when a New York bound flight crashed after the hatch opened. Ohio State University will admit 150 medical students this year, up from 88.

Missing Oberlin Woman Located In Lorain Hospital
Mrs. Ruth Morrison a 57 year old Oberlin resident was found safe in St Josephs Hospital Lorain after a search by Oberlin police and sheriff. She had left home to go to a quarry where she suffered head pains and was helped by a farm resident before traveling by bus to Lorain and Vermilion then to hospital. Authorities stated she could not recall much of the events.

Reject Proposal For Memorial In Ely Park
Council last night refused the Amvets plea to place a World War II memorial stone in Ely Park for Memorial Day. Park officials outlined plans to develop the pool area with memorial tablets, while Amvets member Kaplan said a $2,250 monument had been contracted. The Chinese Communists promised to release two American airmen held since a forced landing near Tsingtao in 1948. Navy electrician chief William C. Smith of Long Beach and Marine master sergeant Elmer C. Bender, from Cincinnati and Chicago, disappeared in 1948 during an L-5 flight and were later confirmed prisoners. Child Falls From Car Near Abbe Road Injury Mild
Susan Murbach aged 3, daughter of Miahd Mrs John Murbach, suffered bruises and brush burns when she fell from a rear seat in a car driven by Mrs Richard Smith on Abbe Road. She was taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital for treatment and observation. A separate incident involved damage to an Ohio Edison Co car by a truck driven by Francis Desbert on Ohio Street. Elyria mid century census nearly finished with only six callbacks by two enumerators left.
