Lorain County will upgrade 65 miles of roads at an estimated cost of 169,153 dollars. County Engineer Donald E. Mediators End Talks With Union Firemen Strike Ends in Impasse
CHICAGO Francis O Neill chairman of the Federal Mediation Board said talks with the firemen's union have ended and the rail strike is not settled. Locomotive firemen struck four major railroads crippling the national network. The union demanded an extra fireman on multiple unit diesels and at least one on switch and electric engines. About 18 000 firemen were involved and more than 30 000 other railroad workers faced possible loss of work. The strike affected 27 states from New York to Los Angeles.
