Changes in Insurance System Under Social Security Amendments
The federal insurance system undergoes changes after last summer’s Social Security Act amendments. The 1 percent payroll tax on employers and employees remains frozen through 1933, saving about 82 million dollars over three years. Beginning 1940 wages over 3000 will not count toward benefits, and refunds may be claimed for taxes paid over 3000. A new Old Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund replaces the old account, funded by a dedicated tax and overseen by a board including the Treasury and Labor secretaries and the Social Security Board chair. A free booklet with details is available from Miss Margaret F Bolwn in Lorain, Ohio.
