Former Gov. James A. Rhodes wins the Republican primary in a three way race to face Gov. Richard Celeste. Rhode s led with 48 percent of 95 percent tabulated votes, Gillmor at 38 percent, Pfeifer 14 percent. Celeste unopposed in the Democratic primary, faces Dennis Kucinich as an independent in November. Rhodes vows the most aggressive general election campaign in state history.
