Pork residue violations remain high despite reductions
Marketbasket dues in pork are still too high. Of 20,892 meat and poultry samples taken in 1974, 981 drug and chemical residue violations were found, a 4.7 percent rate, says Donald Houston, acting administrator of USDA Food Safety and Quality Service. In 1977 violations rose to 6.5 percent, with sulfa residues down from 13 percent but still too high.

Tansey opposes two tier nursing education proposal
State Rep. Marie Tansey opposed a plan requiring two years of college for practical nurses and a four year baccalaureate for registered nurses in Ohio. She argued 85 percent of RNs hold diplomas or associate degrees and abolishing diploma schools would raise costs and reduce nurses. She said practical training from diploma schools cannot be replaced by textbooks and education should be optional.
