Black River deepening project under way in Lorain
The Army Corps of Engineers will open bids May 23 to deepen and widen Black River at Cut No 1 opposite the American Ship Building Co yard. Lorain city council turned over 4.7 acres to the engineers and Chrysland paid 23 934 to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for the land. The 150 000 cubic yards of earth and rock work targets December 1, enabling a 925 foot dry dock and larger river passage for big lake ships.

Kipton council adopts strict traffic policy during clean up month
Kipton village council approved a get tough traffic enforcement plan after a 14 citizen delegation demanded arrests for violators. The two man, part time force will work 20 to 50 hours per month with priority during school hours and 9 pm to 11 pm. Signs were authorized including four 25 mph signs on Church and Rosa, two 15 mph signs near Haigh Road, a Not a Thru Street sign on West Street, and two limited zone signs for the business district.
