Council hires consultant for employees pay talks
The Vermilion City Council hired private consultant David L. Daley to assist wage negotiations with Police Fire and Service Department employees at a maximum cost of 10 000 dollars or 50 dollars per hour up to 200 hours The 7 to 4 vote followed a lengthy executive session amid budget concerns and questions about funds for pay hikes Several council members argued against the expense citing past experiences and the lack of budgeted funds The decision prompted discussion on whether the city team could negotiate without outside help and who would lead the effort in Bergman Scott and other officials Also referenced were petitions and complaints about local nuisances and the Sun game room with Mayor Bowman stating enforcement options lie with the solicitor’s office
