Tragedy as 7 year old dies in accidental rifle discharge

In Lorain County Ohio a 7 year old girl Becky Dougherty was killed when her 12 year old brother carried a .22 rifle from a chair to a gun rack and the weapon discharged hitting her back and chest. Sheriff investigators say the shot was accidental.

Wellington high school offers third year thanatology course

About 20 juniors and seniors at Wellington High enroll daily in a one semester class on death and dying taught by Lois Norton, a teacher and licensed funeral director. The course covers funeral costs, disposal, euthanasia, cryogenics, hospice care, and terminal illness from multiple perspectives with field trips and guest speakers including a priest, minister, insurer, and a lawyer.

Yank-Red spy swap linked to West Berlin student release

US freed Soviet intelligence officer Robert Thompson from Lewisburg prison and exchanged him for American student Alan Norman, held in East Germany for nine months while plans emerged for further exchanges. The three nation swap touched East and West Berlin as officials signed a final document at the US Mission. Thompson lauded the deal and expressed readiness to repeat the exchange if needed.

Climber Scales Sears Tower Banner Urges Whale Save

A 25 year old Chicago man Joe Healy climbed to the 19th floor of the Sears Tower in 40 mph winds in freezing temperatures and hung a three story banner calling for whale conservation. Healy, without gloves, descended and was taken to a police wagon. The banner showed messages in Russian and Japanese with a red whale graphic.
