Seventeen seniors will graduate in the first commencement at Elyria District Catholic High School during the week of June 4. A Senior Mass will be held June 9 at nine o'clock, followed by baccalaureate exercises. On June 11 the class will receive diplomas as Right Rev. Albert J. Almost 400 students are expected to enroll at the Elyria District Catholic High School for the 1950 51 term. Dr Joseph B Lehane announced the anticipated rise as freshman and sophomore classes move up. Current enrollment stands at 245 with 390 projected after registration.

Two Killed In Crash At Crossing Near Vermilion-on-the-Lake
John Micada a 60 year old farmer from Amherst and Alexander Miller about 55 of High Bridge road Ver. Milton-on-the-Lake were killed at 10 40 am when their car a 1936 Oldsmobile was struck by a westbound New York Central passenger train at Sunnyside road crossing. Deputy Sheriff James Howard said the car was carried about 150 feet and the men were ejected. Identification of Micanda was by a driver’s license. Miller by a pocket letter. Their bodies were taken to Emerick Funeral Home in Amherst pending a coroner’s verdict.

A seven-year-old Columbia Station girl, Joyce Tene Avins, died at Berea Hospital after a vehicle driven by Donald W. Nethercut struck her on Route 82 near the Lorain Cuyahoga border. She ran into the road while with her sister-in-law, suffering brain lacerations and a broken leg. Nethercut was not held. The girl was a Columbia school student, daughter of Clyde Avins Jr. and Mrs. Avins, with her family noted at Royalton Road. Continued on Page 2.

State Decides On Limited Access Highway Route 57
County commissioners received notice from the state highway department that the proposed Route 57 between Elyria and Lorain on the old Yellow line right of way will be a limited access road. State Highway Director T H Kaufer announced the decision after a public hearing on April 14. The first Lorain to south of Route 254 segment is expected to be let soon.

Kayden Proposes Simple One Way Plan for Elyria
Councilman Frank Kayden, head of the streets and sidewalks committee, proposes designating Broad Street from Cedar to Chestnut as westbound one way and making Second Street eastbound as one way.
