Assistant Operator Appointed For Sewage Plant
Service Director D W Kothe announced the appointment of Donald Myers of 2058 East Avenue as assistant operator at the Sewage Treatment plant at 255 dollars a month. Myers, a veteran, was one of three civil service eligible candidates with an 87.55 exam grade plus military service allowance totaling 105.05 percent. Elyrians to Begin Census Work Tomorrow
Twenty seven Elyrians will start the 1950 biennial U S census tomorrow at nine o clock. The 27 enumerators, all but one women, were briefed for four days on securing and noting census information during a two week survey in Elyria. Census Takers Begin First Calls Tomorrow
Washington reports nearly 3,000,000 doorbells will be rung as census takers start the 17th century once-a-decade tabulation. Navy Hunts Sub Off California Coast
Western sea frontier planes and a warship searched California to Oregon coastal waters for an unidentified submarine sighted off northern California. The destroyer U S S Cola han was dispatched to investigate with depth charges. Seven prior reports in three months had been discounted. The Navy considers the new sighting important as the report was officially verified. A patrol plane observer reported the sighting about 40 miles off Cape Mendocino, followed by a nearshore sighting four miles south of Blunt Reef Point. The Navy said no American submarines are known to be in the area. Fisherman Ray Carpenter of Trinidad near Eureka first saw the craft.

Prosecutor Paul J. Mikus announced he is turning over the names of 28 relief recipients to County Welfare Director Floyd Shaw for a special check.
