Con Edison Pensions Raise Questions on Officer Stakes
In a critique by Leslie Gould, Con Edison officers and trustees hold few shares yet enjoy repeated pension increases. The Public Service Commission treats pensions as operating costs, shifting the bill to customers and stockholders. Despite modest internal pensions, top executives earn high salaries and own varied but limited stock. The piece argues officers lack strong personal stake in the utility’s welfare.

Old Elyria brickyard found under hospital site
Workmen excavating for a sewer at Elyria Memorial hospital uncovered remains of a brick kiln abandoned about 50 years ago. Records show William Wallhead ran the yard from 1879 to 1900 before moving to West River Street. The ravine at the site was filled to allow hospital construction and the remains were buried under earth. A photo from 1890 shows workers and finished bricks, evidencing Wallhead’s industry with shale bricks and chimney foundations.</s>
