Ohio panel approves bigger tax cut in state budget
The House Finance Committee backed Gov. Celeste's 32.2 billion two year budget with a 10 percent income tax cut dated to begin January 1, 1985. The panel also boosted welfare benefits, rejected GOP amendments, and sent the bill to the full House on a 16 to 10 party line vote, amid a marathon session reviewing about 140 proposals.

Lorain boy 15 drowns after skipping school at Black River
John Bissett of 4621 Norfolk Ave drowned in the Black River while two friends, 15, drank beer and listened to music at a riverside area near 4143 Black River Circle. They waited hours to tell anyone, fearing trouble, before contacting authorities. His body was recovered at 6:18 pm after Coast Guard and medics joined Lorain police.
