Local veterans push for national cemetery in Medina County
Elyria veterans groups join U S Rep. Sherrod Brown in a grass roots drive to fund a proposed 278 acre national veterans cemetery in Guilford Township Medina County. They seek support from four House Appropriations members and VA officials as they collect about 2000 signatures to press for the 14 to 15 million dollar project.

OSU Keeps Slavic Studies Department After Local Pressure
State Sen. Alan J. Zaleski said Ohio State University will retain its Slavic studies department following appeals from Lorain Councilman Jeff Sedivy and community leaders. Sedivy noted a professor traveled to Lorain to rally support and highlighted the department's value to regional heritage. Kalbouss plans to meet Lorain County Community College officials to discuss offering some Slavic classes. Ohio has about 798,000 residents with Hungarian, Polish, Ukrainian, Czechoslovakian, Slovenian and Serbian ancestry.
