Melancholy close to a famed writing duo
A nostalgic column notes a well known writer and partner, part of a highly successful team, ending with a somber mood. A shabby boy outside a Seventh Avenue window roasts giant hams, his eyes bright yet haunted, answering a baffling question with a terse, poignant line.
