In Wheeling West Virginia authorities report rising waters along the Ohio River have begun to recede. A regional flood warning was rescinded after brief alarms as Monongahela and Allegheny rivers show no new crests and the Kanawha values ease. Forecasters expect fair skies with light showers later.
Ohio forecast shows a warmer night tonight and again Friday with colder conditions Friday night. In the west and south portions, by Friday afternoon temperatures fall further.
Washington report reveals Townsend Old Age Pension organizers admitted they had not studied basic economics or taken college courses. Key member Clem testified he relied on statistics and government reports rather than textbooks or formal training while shaping the Townsend Plan and its proposed $2 per month benefit.
Louisville, Ky March 26 Seventy six of Kentucky towns felt no alarm as meningitis cases numbers remained manageable. Six persons contracted meningitis in Lowis V. T. McCormack, an actor, en route to and from northern cities. Officials planned a broader survey to curb spread. Harlan County showed improvement with a few new cases while Pike and Letcher counties reported growth. Marion County logged one case, and a second appeared in County. Three deaths occurred in the three month period.
March 25 the measure, aided by L Bowers of Ohio State University, underwent committee review for over three hours before the Senate. A revised bill passed 4 to 1 in the special welfare committee but retains the core idea of a reserve fund and automatic employer contribution reductions. She said her father is a WPA worker and that she is the eldest of four. Police planned to arrange her return home.
R. C. Maston Elyria superintendent of schools traveled to Akron for a conference of school superintendents. Expected to attend were P. C. Bunn Lorain superintendent and Howard L. Rawdon Oberlin superintendent as various school problems were set for discussion.
New Jersey Governor Hoffman presses to save Bruno Hauptmann's life, urging a written exchange and cross examination with Col. Charles A. Lindbergh's agent Dr. John Condon. Attorney General Wilentz rejects a written dialogue and seeks formal interrogation. Condon offers to be questioned in New York with a stenographer present at a suitable location.
Attorney General John W. Bricker Republican candidate for governor charged that many liquor department employees drive cars with blind licenses and use state gasoline. He said the Republican state central committee would report soon on blind licenses and that high way projects face delays in an election year. Clarence J. Brown also spoke.
Columbus March 25 A 17 percent salary raise was approved for 4906 state highway department workers by Director Joby Jaster Jr The change shifts the workforce from a 30 hour to a 35 hour week with hourly pay capped at fifty cents This increase does not apply to department executives and a future shift to a 49 hour week was reportedly possible
In flood damaged southern Ohio state health director Dr. W. H. Hartung warned a disease crisis may develop in the coming week. He cited typhoid vaccine shipments of 22 000 units and extensive immunization as needed while damp living conditions raise pneumonia risk among evacuated residents and river-area students.
The American Red Cross reported receipts of 9,039,214 toward a 5,000,000 flood relief goal. More than 100,000 families are being aided with the largest gains in the Pittsburgh area. Miss Edith Cuthbert, state supervisor of special classes for deaf and hard of hearing children, visited Franklin School in Elyria and saw two classes now serving about 17 students. The JF R Dall Company was awarded the city contract yesterday for a light sedan to be used by police services. The award followed bidding on 4 unit price and a total of 3699 dollars. The board of control, led by Major Don A. Baird and Service Director I D Faxon, is reviewing bids from 14 bidders for a truck and an air compressor for the water department. Bids ranged from 199 dollars for the compressor to 250 dollars for the compressor plus rack. City Engineer J M Powell provided details.
A. R. Boeckling, 63, president of the Cedar Point operator G. A. Boeckling Co., died today at his South Bend home after heading the Lake Erie resort business.
Thirteen Elyria High School students earned A in all their work during the first grading period. Seventy-one others achieved at least one A and no grade below B, earning places on the honor roll. Named students include Carolin Guth, William Lersch, Lv Tarnowski, Bertha Smith, Gordog Holton, Lithian Dowdell, Thomas Stephens, Gwendolin Irwin, Bertir Miller, Adelia Ozminski, Jean Crisp, Helen Wright, and Leonard Starsniak.
The Ohio Public Utilities Commission refused the applications of Eastern Greyhound Lines and Buckeye Stages to operate local service on a Toledo to Cleveland route via Sandusky. It found no public necessity or convenience and that current transportation in the area is adequate and efficient. Lake Shore Electric Railroad opposed the plan.

Wheeler, aged, seeks arraignment before Juvenile Judge H C Wilcox as he faces parole history and suspicions tied to the Oberlin incident.
FRIEDRICHSHAFEL Germany March 26 Germany's giant zeppelin Hindenburg LZ 129 was damaged at the stern during a propaganda tour with Graf Zeppelin as strong northeast wind pushed it off course. Damage said slight. both ships continued. The Hindenburg landed for repairs three hours later and resumed its flight two hours after. It was expected to land Sunday evening after crew and passengers cast votes on board. The airship plans a Lakehurst New Jersey trip starting March 6 for a week.
AKRON March 26 Bar berton Chemical Co strikers rejected the company 34 point peace plan and began the sixth week of their strike. Bruce W Bierce counsel for the company said negotiations are over as the strikers voted against acceptance at a Barberton Central Labor Union meeting.
