Man teacher of first grade stands out in Midview district
E. John White, 28, teaches first grade at East Carlisle School in the Midview Local School District. He volunteered for the role after two years in sixth grade, believing first grade offers real challenge and personal connection. White, a Hobart College and Oberlin College alum, served in the Peace Corps in the Philippines, discovered his vocation teaching and guiding young learners. He emphasizes student responsibility, peer tutoring, and a balanced, active classroom. He notes many boys prefer school roles and that a male teacher adds importance, while facing typical teaching demands with evident enthusiasm.
