Compromise Farm Bill Caught In Senate Snarl
Supporters of a compromise farm bill, passed by the House, faced a Senate stalemate as opponents blocked final action. The bill would raise government controlled cotton and peanut acreages, deny potato price supports without quotas, and empower the secretary to curb certain production. Debate lingered as legislators sought to corral out‑of‑town members for a possible nextweek vote. A separate note reports authorities recovering a 1942 Oldsmobile stolen in 1945 from the Western Automatic Machine and Screw Co. in Cleveland.
