Demjanjuk judges refuse to bow out in murder trial
Judges hearing retired Cleveland autoworker Jonn Demjanjuk refused a defense bid to disqualify them and ordered the trial to resume. Judge Dov Levine defended the court’s conduct as lenient and patient amid gravity of the charges. Defense lawyer Yoram Sheftel planned an appeal and sought a pause, which Levine rejected. Demjanjuk faces accusations of serving as Treblinka guard Ivan the Terrible. He contends mistaken identity and cites Red Army POW work. The court rejected Florida judgment as evidence and asked for testimony from involved officials.
