Izaak Walton League forum on Republic quarry in Elyria
The Black River Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will hold a public forum at Northwood Junior High on April 2 at 7 p.m. to inform residents about the Republic Steel quarry off West River Road south believed to be a hazardous waste site and listed on the Superfund list. City officials have appealed the EPA decision claiming independent tests show lower danger and offering to test and clean up at lower cost. An EPA explanation of proposed testing and cleanup methods is sought, with a Q and A session after panel reports.
