Co-ops in Lorain and western Cuyahoga counties form food buying network
In 1975 Mrs. Studer and a friend organized La Comitida, a natural food co-op spanning western Cuyahoga and eastern Lorain counties. The group has grown into more than a dozen co-ops. Country Cupboard in Avon plans a storefront in April and many members value fresher foods and local cooperatives over price alone. The region’s co-ops include Good Food Co-op at Oberlin College, Sunray Foods in North Olmsted, Natural Encounter in Avon, Healthway in North Ridgeville, Garden Hill Food, and Country Cupboard, with members working shifts to sort orders and deliver produce and dairy.
