U S Steel Lorain plant to reach full production next week

U S Steel Corp Lorain-Cuyahoga Works plans full production next week with about 200 recalls, bringing the plant to seven coke batteries and five blast furnaces in operation. About 7,500 workers will be on site as production ramps up across BOP and bar mills, with summer jobs possible for college students.

Nixon seeks moratorium on busing and new equal education plan

President Nixon asked Congress to pause all court ordered pupil busing until July 1 1973 or earlier if Congress acts. He proposed an equal educational opportunities law directing about 2.5 billion dollars in aid, roughly 300 dollars per pupil from poor families, targeting schools with over 30 percent poor enrollment. He spoke with Senate and House leaders and urged focus on better education for all children while not undoing civil rights gains. He suggested a constitutional amendment to ban busing but set aside as not immediate solution.

Mentor couple shot fire set in home autopsy finds double murder

The Mentor couple Howard Hoffman Jr. and Laura Jane were shot to death in their home and flames set to hide the crime. Coroner confirmed both died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds. Prosecutor Milton Stern calls it a double murder unless the coroner rules otherwise. No suspects named. police have questioned several people.

A presidential commission urges abortion on request and contraceptive services for minors to curb population growth. Area boy Timmy Urig faces open heart surgery
