Carter sweeps three states in Democratic contest
United Press International reports Carter landslide victories in Mississippi South Carolina and Wyoming amid delegate gains. In South Carolina with over a fifth of precincts in, Carter led with 54 percent and 1 713 delegates to Kennedy's 218 while 971 remained uncommitted. Wyoming results show Carter 62 2 percent of delegates and 106 5 votes to Kennedy 41 5 with 23 uncommitted. Mississippi totals give Carter 76 4 percent of votes and 1 623 7 delegate votes to Kennedy 111 2. Former Gov Cliff Finch and Gov Edmund Brown Jr posted small shares. Strauss called the wins a substantial boost in delegate strength.
