Judge OKs use of psychiatrist in trial
San dusky Erie County Common Pleas Judge James McCrystal granted a defense request to hire a psychiatrist for James M. Damante 18 charged with the New Year’s Day stabbing deaths of Perkins Township brothers Mark Ridgeway 16 and Marshall Ridgeway 14. The judge denied the defense’s bid to inspect grand jury testimony and did not rule on a gag order unless needed. Damante’s lawyers said police leaks tainted the case after a Feb news conference where police said Damante confessed to killing the brothers for blackmail related to past homosexual relations.

Lorain County to prepare 2500 juror names for fall term
The Lorain County jury commission was told to select 2500 electors from the voter list for jury service for the fall term beginning September 1. Every 19th name will be drawn and checked for suitability, with selected names placed in the clerk of courts jury wheel and used as needed for a year. Existing wheel names will be removed before adding new ones.

Gunshot Victim Hospitalized After Avon Lake Incident
Avon Lake Police investigate an early morning shooting at Carol's Tavern on Lake Road. John W. Young, 21, of 216 Moore Road, was found with a gunshot wound to the left knee and was in fair condition at Lorain St. Joseph Hospital. Police believe he may have shot himself. the case remains under investigation.
