Firelands schools face cloudy budget outlook
Firelands Supt. Harris Youngblood warned of bleak times and urged a 5-mill operating levy to steady finances into 1981–82. He cited a $50,000 state aid cut and predicted further reductions, noting the 5-mill levy is a continuation of a previous 5.8-mill emergency levy set to expire January 1982.

Lorain workers reach layoff accord
Lorain city workers union and the city settled a dispute over layoff procedures for 43 employees after a partial hearing before Common Pleas Judge Adrian F. Bedleski. The agreement preserves seniority rights, retains all current CETA staff, and allows older workers to bump less senior employees where vacancies exist. The deal stems from a projected 1.4 million deficit and the need to balance finances, with shifting of some senior staff to water and related departments as vacancies allow.
