The case of 15 year old Joseph Bell was assigned to a 20 member task force, with 18 year old Darren Glass still missing. Brown called the aid a symbol of national concern and noted the money covers about ten months of unbudgeted costs.
A laundry room blaze at a four story uptown Chicago hotel converted to housing killed 17 and left 10 injured with at least a dozen missing. Firefighters rescued 15, and investigators say the fire started on a lower floor then raced upward through the building.

The incident sparked renewed tensions as authorities cited violence in the region and past U S aid tied to the Duarte regime. The slain included Sisters Dorothy Kazel Ita Ford and lay worker Jean Donovan Maura Clarke. Witnesses described village clashes near Suchitepequez and the Guazapa area amid ongoing rebel activity.
