Mayor Leonard P Reichlin indicated a veto threat over parts of Elyria’s 1970 permanent appropriations tied to a city purchase of land for a new county administration building. He supports the county agreement but opposes city spending that would shortchange city programs. Details will be presented to city council Monday at 1s regular meeting.
A two year old Lorain girl injured in a Sunday two car collision near Sandusky died last night at Elyria Memorial Hospital. She suffered head and chest injuries and had been in critical condition in ICU since the crash. Her mother and two brothers were injured and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, with the brothers later released. Alvin L Stovall was charged with driving under the influence after his vehicle crossed the center line. funeral arrangements are by Dombrowski Funeral Home Lorain. A private fund drive is planned to help the city cover its share of the new county administration building costs amid upcoming appropriations debates.
President Nixon urged Congress to regulate private industry pension funds for the first time. He said legislation would cover more than 120 million dollars in benefits for about 50 million workers and grant the labor secretary expanded powers to enforce and investigate.
Oberlin College student Christopher Dahl, 23, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich, died at Elyria Memorial Hospital from injuries after a car struck a utility pole on Pyle South Amherst Road near Butternut Ridge. Lorain County deputies say the crash occurred around 2 a.m. and was found at 2:39 a.m. by Dale Rider and Thomas Moore.
A fifth person faces murder charges in the slayings of UMW president Joseph Yablonski his wife and daughter. Silous Huddleston 61 of La Follette Tenn linked to the crime and extradition proceedings unfold as Pennsylvania seeks to bring four others to trial. The case dates to December 31 when the Yablonski family was killed in Clarksville Pennsylvania.

New York dispatch reports meter maid Anne Tootle issued six parking tickets along Fifth Avenue in front of the Hotel Pierre while the First Lady and Tricia Nixon shopped inside. Secret Service guards later found the tickets. the traffic department backed the maid’s actions.

Courtney E Kirby announces retirement as executive director of United Community Services of Greater Lorain County on April 1. Alfred Porkdab, UCS president, says Kirby will remain as a consultant and that John Co McGoldrick will be appointed successor, moving to Lorain County from Concord Mass. McGoldrick, Yale and Ohio State alum, has led United Fund efforts across several cities. He will relocate with his six children near Parkdale after the current school year as UCS seeks strong leadership for upcoming years.
Lorain County Community College coach Jack Wilhelm remains hospitalized after being struck by a hit-skip driver on Schwartz Road Avon. The 47 year old associate professor suffered a broken pelvis and hip with internal injuries and has received multiple transfusions. Police seek witnesses and the jogging outfit was sent to London Ohio for analysis.
