Week's combat deaths drop to 88 in Vietnam war
The U S combat deaths in Vietnam fell to 88 for the week, down 22 percent from a prior three month high of 113, while the wounded rose 72 percent to 803. U S total killed in action since Jan 1, 1961 stands at 40,846 with 269,099 wounded and 1,363 missing or captured. Allied forces reported 2,105 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese killed. Saigon's battle deaths led with 343 killed and 742 wounded. Three American helicopters were destroyed by ground fire, including a Kiowa, the first Kiowa loss in Vietnam.

Hazardous devices strike three NYC offices in midtown

Lorain coach critically injured in hi-skip accident
Lorain County Community College cross country coach Jack Wilhelm aged 37 remained in critical condition at Lorain St Joseph Hospital after being struck from behind while jogging along Schwartz Road in Avon at 6 am. He suffered a broken pelvis and hip and internal injuries and lay in a drainage ditch for 45 minutes before flagging down help. Driver Fred Carson of North Olmsted, a Brookside High School teacher, notified authorities after fleeing to a nearby house.
