Elyria Schools to Clear Trees for New Athletic Complex

Miller Logging Inc. will clear about 15 acres at the Ely Stadium site for Elyria Schools new athletic complex. Trees will be removed by May 15 after a total cut before April 1, enabling Phase 1 to include a synthetic turf field and track, field house, grandstands for 3,500, bleachers for 1,500, a press box and 300-car parking. Phase 2 adds baseball fields and tennis courts once funding allows. The $9 million stadium sits within a $140 million district project approved in 2016, with a target opening in the 2018-19 school year and no disruption to events.

Loomis Camera founder Foxman remembered in Elyria tale

The long time Loomis Camera owner Howard Foxman who built Elyria’s oldest continuous shop is recalled for his business sense and loyalty to staff. His camera sign and shop window became local landmarks while a 1996 bank chase near the store remains a vivid memory. Foxman died at ninety five with his family and community sharing tributes.
