U S Steel closes four seamless mill at Lorain plant

U S Steel informed workers the four seamless No 6 Quench and Temper Mill segment will close permanently by June 8 due to tough tubular market conditions and unfair imports. About 200 employees were affected when idled in 2015. 58 remain on layoff as shutdown becomes permanent.

Avon Middle School Spelling Bee Crowned Josh Prunty

Avon in a lively gym scene crowned Josh Prunty an eighth grade winner after a tense final round at the 34th annual spelling bee. He and Emelie Ojukwu of First Baptist Christian School and Renee Clippinger of South Amherst Middle School reached the final three spelling 35 words, with Josh ultimately prevailing after spelling 20 words in the final round.

Jordan invited to bowl at White House next Tuesday

Longtime Elyria fixture Howard Foxman dies at 95

Howard Foxman, longtime Loomis Camera owner in Elyria, died at 95 in Avon Lake. For 62 years his Broad Street shop sold cameras and darkroom supplies, a mom and pop hub where customers came first and his chair held many stories. Friends recall his humor and the shop’s worn charm as the community mourns a local icon.
