Fire destroys Dayton Military Home building and contents
The Quartermaster building of the National Military Home near Dayton, a three story rambling block long structure, burned today causing an estimated loss of 1,250,000 to the government. It housed food and clothing for 3,800 residents. food remains for three meals. A clothing consignment valued at 45,000 was in the building. Col. Fred C. Runkle will hold an inquiry. the fire is believed caused by cattle, defective wiring, or a cigarette. Dayton and nearby departments fought the blaze under District Fire Chief McFaddin.
