Tax ruling on bonds wont snag USS plan
A favorable IRS ruling on tax free status of industrial revenue bonds is reported to shield Lorain County’s $80 million bond issue for U S Steel’s Lorain Works. Underwriters Morgan Stanley likely to close by March 15, keeping tax exemption under present rules. The financing, first of its kind for U S Steel, uses a leasing arrangement with no taxpayer cost.
