Agricultural official outlines soil program goals

Wallace explained that subsidies would vary by commodity and by acres out of commercial use. He cited 1930 data showing about 300 million acres planted to soil-depleting crops and 100 million to soil-conserving crops. The aim is to raise the 100 million acres to about 130 million, reducing soil waste and boosting long term farm land value and food production. Tolley, special advisor to the program, opposed the plan. Wallace was to arrive tonight or tomorrow.
