Ray Wilson plaque unveiled at North Rink in Elyria
A bronze plaque honoring Ray Wilson was unveiled by his widow Betty Wilson at the North Rink. Wilson, a longtime Elyria coach in football baseball and hockey, died of a heart attack last spring while giving pointers at Little League practice. He founded the Elva Flyers hockey team and helped make hockey a major winter activity, with over 100 boys signed up this season. The plaque in the North Park building credits his leadership and devotion to youth hockey in Elyria. A crowd attended with Recreation Board Chairman Charles Hyman and Recreation director Charles Hoagland speaking. Wilson also coached at Northwood Junior High and once led Elvira High baseball.
