Ohio to Close Lorain Elyria Draft Offices in 9 Days

Selective Service director Col Thomas S Ferrell announced the Lorain and Elyria offices will close within nine days as part of a statewide reorganization. The change creates 18 regional offices with records and staff moved to Sandusky, while 134 local draft boards remain unaffected.

Woman Held In Lorain Man's Death

A 23 year old Lorain man Ivan Young died after being stabbed when he stepped between a knife wielding woman Joreatha Edmon and her boyfriend. Edmon 21 faces second degree murder charges with bond set at 25000. Witnesses said Edmon argued with Clinton Carter while drinking at her home. Carter held as maternal witness. The incident follows a prior 1969 stabbing case and a separate family death in 1969 in Elyria.

Eight U S helicopters shot down as Reds deploy SAMs

Eight American UH-1 Huey helicopters were downed in Laos amid the South Vietnamese drive on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. One crewman was killed, seven wounded, eight missing. Reports say SAMs were used across the DMZ by North Vietnam, though the losses were blamed on conventional antiaircraft fire.

FTC action ends deceptive enzyme ads in major detergents

The FTC says Colgate Palmolive, Procter & Gamble, and Lever Brothers will disclose that enzyme additives do not remove all stains and may only aid with grease and rust. Weather officials warned of up to four inches of snow in Lorain County and greater Cleveland as a low pressure front moves north along the East Coast. Snow began around 9 this morning with travel advisories at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. The system, centered over Georgia, was expected to reach New York by nightfall, affecting areas east and west of Cleveland with similar snowfall.
