Inside job suspected in blast at US Capitol
The blast damaged about six rooms in the Capitol. Officials speculated an inside job or a bomber familiar with the area. FBI found no clues yet. leads are being checked. Senate hearings were urged to probe the blast, which caused 300000 in damage. Local weather reports forecast cold, with highs in the 30s and increasing winds. CAPITOL police noted suspicious calls from Chicago and Spokane about the explosion.

U S cuts trail in oil refinery strike and Laos raid
UPI reports Communist truck traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail cut in half by American bombing. In Cambodia 80 percent of Kompong Som refinery was hit and the city airport closed. A daylight mortar attack followed as U S jets hit missile sites near Laos border in the latest protective reaction raid.

Elyria police seek pay for 17 who worked during 1969 sick strike
Police Chief Maurice Flood asked the city council to authorize $11,682 for 17 officers who remained on duty during the 1969 sick call strike. He notes other officers received sick pay and argues those who worked deserve equivalent compensation. City Auditor Kellogg says 20 officers were paid $5,048 for sick leave during the strike, with 14 more who called in sick still unpaid.

Brothers kill 7 year old in California rampage
Two young men armed with a fork and a kitchen knife killed their 7 year old brother and seriously wounded four other family members in a senseless rampage in a southern California home. Bruce Taylor 23 and Robert Taylor 19 were arrested later. Diane Voelinger 18 was booked as a suspect. Victims include Terry Lynn Taylor 7 who died from massive stab wounds and parents Bernice 44 and Charles 49 in serious condition at Riverside Hospital. Sibling Elizabeth 16 also in serious condition. Megan 13 listed as stabbed. Margaret said Bruce began stabbing everyone, acting crazy before police arrivals.

A federal grand jury in Washington indicted the United Mine Workers of America president on conspiracy embezzlement and illegal political contributions totaling 49 280. The Salute To Humphrey Dinner Committee allegedly received 30 000 in 1968 during Hubert Humphrey's campaign. Also named were John Owens secretary treasurer and James Kmetz, LNPL director.

Remains of church built over Jesus grave found
Greek archeologist Athanasios Economopoulos announced the discovery of remains of the original church built over the grave of Jesus inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Old Jerusalem. He said the church dated to 335 AD under Constantine the Great as restoration by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate and Greek government proceeds with completion expected next year.
