Housing chief in Lorain to retire as director in 1986

Ronald Ashley executive director of the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority for 24 years resigns Tuesday night. He will serve one year as a consultant for 48 238 yearly total including a 7 percent retroactive raise. He oversaw about 3 000 housing units and a 232 million dollar budget. Ashley will remain available as a consultant through mid 1986 with no plans beyond next year.

Ohio reaches bipartisan accord on 20 percent tax cut over four years

Ohio lawmakers broker a compromise adding a 15 percent cut in 1985 87 and a 5 percent cut later, culminating in a 20 percent income tax reduction over four years. Senate President Gillmor and House Speaker Riffe voiced optimism the $20 billion budget will pass on time, avoiding interim spending. Gov Celeste called the move timely and responsible.

Lorain County Club is sold to ELYRIA Lorain Country Club Ltd. with about 60 members and local residents affected. The purchase price is $1.4 million at a sheriff’s sale in the county courthouse. Ronald Sanker, a club member, says the club will stay open and 871 memberships will be honored, with fees likely remaining unchanged.

Flowers Lifted Trigger Lorain Police Arrest Case

A 71 year old man and two others were arrested after a Lindenwood woman reported her flowers Geraniums and mums were ripped from her front yard. Police spotted a blue Honda on Ashland Avenue pulling over the suspects and found a half filled wild punch can and beer. A 14 year old in the car admitted the plant theft and that Donald Zelenak had driven the car. The 29 year old driver Michelle Kertesz was charged with driving while intoxicated and open container. The incident links to a separate property foreclosure case involving Lorain Country Club Ltd and David S Towner with a sheriff sale looming after a June court ruling.
