Berri says Beirut hostage crisis near end amid French offer
Beiruts Shiite leader Nabih Berri said the 13 day siege of 39 American hostages from a TWA hijacking could end soon as France offered to house them. He cited a 30 minute meeting with French Embassy officials and noted no U.S. response yet while Swiss mediators studied an idea to move captives to Bern. The two French hostages remain alive and unlocated by officials.
