Despondent Elyria man drives to river in suicide attempt
A 20-year-old Elyria man, Robert Miller, drove 75 to 100 mph on West Ninth Street, through a guardrail and into the Black River, flipping his Buick Century. He was rescued and hospitalized in good condition with facial cuts after witnesses said he declared he would not live if he could not have his girlfriend and their baby. Police had earlier responded to a plea that Miller abduct his girlfriend Charlotte Bolger, 17, and their child from 440 W Ninth Street before the crash.
