American finds after war he’s man without country
An American in Belfast who fought for Britain in World War I sings in the streets with his wife to survive. Born in Rhode Island as George Young he served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers, won the Military Medal, and after 1923 was discharged to work near Belfast. He faces emigration hurdles as Ellis Island and State Department refuse his return passport due to his oath to the British flag. He must wait on a quota, leaving him to perform for meals while papers are held by the steamship company and not yet returned.
