Bulletin Hoy Lake Eng June 20 Bobby Jones captured his third British Open title with a total of 291. Leo Diegel, American PGA champion, failed to overtake in the final round after a promising start, finishing with a total well behind the leader.
The Open championship standings list Bobby Jones at 291 and Leo Diegel and Mac Smith at 293. Horton Smith and Fred Robson at 296, Archie Compston and Jim Barnes at 207, Henry Cotton at 299, Auguste Boyer Tom Barber and C A Whitcombe at 300, Bert Hodson at 301, Abe Mitchell and R A Whitcombe at 302. Other groups show Don Moe Phil Rodgers at 808 and E R Whitcombe W Large A J Young Percy Alliss at 8305.
Strokes behind the new champion whose 291 was beyond the reach of all the others. Bobby Jones won his first British open at Royal Lytham St Anne's in 1926 with a 291 total. He also won the 1927 championship at St Andrews with 285 total. He is the first to win both the British amateur and open in a single year since 1890.
A total of 354 applications for cigarette licenses were received at the county treasurer's office in Lo Rain county with the payment deadline only hours away. County Treasurer N. D. Backus said no extension was granted. The license fee is 50 dollars, with refunds possible for short-term licenses, subject to a minimum charge of 10 dollars.
Detroit June 20 An offer of $200 000 today was wired to Joe Jacobs manager of Max Schmeling world heavyweight champion for a title fight here in September between Schmeling and Johnny Risko of Cleveland Dick Dunn matchmaker for Olympia said Danny Dunn Risso's manager had agreed to terms for the fight.
John Janowicz of 425 Fifteenth Street was slightly injured just before noon today when a car driven by Frank Armbruster of 110 Riverdale Court cut left in front of his bicycle at the intersection of West Avenue and Third Street.
Washington June 20 An appropriation of 250000 for the Wickersham law enforcement commission for 1981 was stricken from the second deficiency bill on a house point of order Rep Laguardia R New York argued the appropriation lacked legal authorization and the ruling was sustained by Rep Chindblom Repn Ills who presided.
Chicago dispatch reports gangland gunmen abducted and killed Lorenzo JuHano chief of a South Side alcohol gang. The slaying follows the assassination of Tribune reporter Alfred J. Lingle, which sparked public uproar and led to resignations in city law enforcement as Iron Man John Alcock seeks a major crime crackdown.
Sixteen people were injured in Bombay when police and a crowd of native demonstrators clashed before an English store. A 4,000 student procession was charged by police with staves and dispersed amid ongoing disturbances.
In Dayton Ohio early today an auto jumped a curb, plunged through a thicket, struck a tree and overturned into about four feet of water in an old canal. Kenneth Berry age 25 and Foster Doyle age 24, both from Dayton, were killed. C. F. Sweeney, who lived near the scene, reported the car was traveling at high speed.
The Cuyahoga county grand jury charged nineteen Clevelanders including Labor Union officials and Electric Contractors members with violations of the Valentine Anti-Trust law. The indictment alleges a combination in restraint of trade.
Marine Sergeant Albert Andrew Budai of Wauseon Ohio was stabbed to death at Matagalpa Nicaragua on June 8 after an argument with residents. His mother Mrs Budai resides in Wauseon. Headquarters announced today.
Circleville Ohio June 20 two local men Benjamin Ritt 21 and James Dean 31 were killed when their car crashed into a pole on Adelphi Pike. Dean suffered a broken neck and Ritt was fatally injured by wood from the pole. Fred Martin 45 the driver was seriously hurt and doctors feared he would die.
Columbus June 20 Governor Cooper today refused to intervene in the execution of James Litteral of Athens who is to die in the electric chair tonight. Mrs Nancy Davis of Nelsonville, sister of the condemned man, pleaded yesterday that Littoral was mentally irresponsible.
A Toledo fleet of lake worthy craft left the Toledo Yacht club to join coast guard vessels in a massive recovery effort on Lake Erie for seven missing Toledo men believed thrown from a speedboat near Pelee Island. John Liptak, 24, was recovered off West Sister Island. The search began after the tragedy last Saturday and involved Mayor William T. Jackson and Commodore Frank R. Frey directing the operation.
Richard Bailey an 11 year old boy was struck in the face by a ball at McKinley school diamond last night. He lost several teeth and sustained a lip cut and was taken to Memorial hospital for treatment. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Richard Bailey of 415 Park avenue.
South Amherst promoters planned a boxing bout with two unknown fighters from Philadelphia and North Pittsburgh. Deputies arrived with badges, labeled the event a potential grudge fight, prompting cancellation and a small crowd assembling before the clash could begin.
Over a hundred delegates from every Lorain County 4-H club attend the Club Advisors and Officers Conference at the Y M C A in Lorain. The program includes an 10:00 assembly, officer meetings, expert talks, and group discussions led by O C Croy and H S Ward, with music by the Columbia boys club and a 2:45 briefing on the Lowe County program. The event closes with an America sing.
TIFFIN Ohio June 20 Harry Yeazel 46 of Ballentine and his wife Hazel 42 were rushed to Mercy hospital after Yeazel attacked his estranged wife at Fort Seneca with a rifle after she rebuffed him The weapon jammed and he beat her with the stock then slashed his own throat wounding himself probably fatally both victims hospitalized with serious injuries.
County treasurer N. D. Backus reports about 1.5 million dollars collected at the original tax deadline. An unusually heavy mail increased the total, with roughly 1.5 million more still to collect. Many county collection offices, including Lorain, will close tonight per prearranged plans as payment period extended to July 20.
In Columbus Ohio on June 20 representatives of more than twenty Ohio cities gathered at Ohio State University Faculty Club to discuss forming an Ohio Municipal League. Mayors managers and other officials from cities including Dayton Elyria Mansfield Lorain Steubenville Defiance Piqua Wooster Lakewood Bucyrus Athens Marietta Ashtabula Norwood and Dover attended the session.

A five and a half mile strip of Quarry road paving was completed yesterday, announced by County Surveyor C T Biggs. The road runs along township lines between Brighton and Wellington, linking Rochester and South Amherst in traffic bound macadam. Work begins on Parsons road, between Oberlin and Grafton, with two miles to be paved on the same surface to connect Grafton with La Grange.
Lorain man Antonio Dzouclis faces a first degree murder charge in the death of his son in law William Dineff of Lorain. After a month long observation at Lima State Hospital to assess mental condition, Dr. Vorban will report to Judge Thompson. jurors are to report Monday. The trial paused May 23 when Dzouclis became hysterical in court.
Arch ie Shellhouse spent a night in county jail on intoxication charges after he offered a deputy sheriff a drink. The deputy, returning home, found Shellhouse's car in a ditch on the Grafton Road and he agreed to help if a drink was provided. A bottle appeared and they proceeded to the jail.
Gonzales Najer of Lorain will be transported to the Ohio Penitentiary tomorrow if required papers reach the sheriff by then. He would be the second Lorain County man sent to the penitentiary since April 21, according to Sheriff Clarence Adame.
The city will accept bids next Tuesday for the Blaine Street and Lincoln Court relief sewer. John N. Eldt, director of public safety and service, announced the plan, saying work should start soon as the sewer must be built before paving streets.
A group of youths celebrating July fourth on Middle avenue and Seventh street was disrupted when a firecracker was hurled into the crowd,burning a boy’s face and ears. Glen Petro, 17, Sandusky, admitted throwing the firecracker and was turned over to juvenile authorities. Police cited an ordinance banning firecrackers and noted bootlegging from nearby areas undermines enforcement as attempts at a state law failed.
David Gibson publisher of the Lorain Journal announced in Mansfield Ohio that a new afternoon daily will be published by Mansfield Journal Company. Incorporators include Gibson S A Horvitz D F Williams Hugh Martin and G J Kochendorfer with Kochendorfer to be editor. Publication slated about September but no stock will be sold.
Trial for Frank and Walter Schuster on assault and battery ended quickly when Frank changed his plea from not guilty to guilty and the case against Walter collapsed. Frank Schuster will be sentenced Monday.
A Lorain man received a three year sentence in the penitentiary for shooting with intent. The case followed a fire incident and related police actions. Gustave Becques of Lorain, held since April 8, was rejected from county jail amid the proceedings.
Joseph Clarke, 34, an escaped Creedmore Hospital inmate, was arrested in Philadelphia after a trace via a letter to Queens Village. He faced extradition to New York as a suspect in the Queens murder spree, amid letters threatening a man named John Moszynski and mentions of blonde actresses among his papers. He resisted arrest then agreed to be extradited.
About 100 students from Harvard and Yale rioted at Hotel Griswold in New London after boat races. Five arrested, four released after paying $180 for damages. an unidentified woman burned by gas balloons sparked by a cigarette. James Beale, Harvard, jailed for breaking a plate glass window after refusing to pay $25. Police subdued the crowd as windows were shattered.
County Dog Warden Lee Minkler traced a trio of dogs from Joseph Myers farm west of Mts Hollow Hill to Vermillion. The dogs, including an Airedale and a police dog, were killed this morning after reportedly killing six sheep.
