Elyria YMCA selects Washington Ave site for new pool building

After a yearlong search the Elyria YMCA board unanimously exercised an option on 1.68 acres at 265 Washington Ave. The $750000 fundraising campaign ended June 8 with about 15000 still needed. The planned building centers on a 45 by 75 foot pool and locker rooms for all ages and aims for completion in 1972. The Court Street pool remains in use and will support the new facility.

Violent Storm Strikes Lorain Medina Huron Counties

A severe line of thunderstorms with winds up to 80 mph lashed southern Lorain, Medina, and Huron counties last night. Widespread damage included downed trees, shattered windows, and transformer outages. no serious injuries reported as residents sought shelter in basements. The Spencer post office and several roads were affected, with damage concentrated in Nova, Huntington, Sullivan, Spencer, River Corners, and Litchfield areas.

Lightning Strikes Home in Lagrange Area Causes Damage

Mayor Donald Brouse reports most village damage centered on North Main with power restored by morning. In Indian Hollow Road area, Chester Duplaga's house roof was damaged by lightning though no injuries occurred. Winds felled limbs and trees and telephone service remained out in spots. Elyrian Navy Ranks Man Dies in Two Car Crash

Gregory R. Davies, 22, of 3 Lucille Dr, Elyria, died from injuries after a two car crash near Camp Lejeune, N C. He enlisted in 1967 and served in the medical corps with Marines in Vietnam. son of David R. Davies and Mrs Winginia Davies. Further details were unavailable.

Lorain teen crowned Miss Lorain County in pageant
