Soviet cosmonauts pass 250 hours in space on Salyut

Soviet Union cosmonauts Lt Col Georgi Dobrovolsky Vladislav Volkov and Viktor Patsayev have surpassed 250 hours aboard the Salyut space station. Observers say the extended stay could set a new endurance record as the trio follows a daily routine of sleep exercise work and relaxation with the prospect of a fresh crew relieving them as the mission extends.

Freed Soviet freighter sails for Japan

A Soviet freighter named Suleyman Stalskiy left San Francisco bound for Japan after a U.S. marshal seizure was ruled illegal by Judge George B. Harris. The vessel had been held for six days in Alameda as security for a 377000 damage suit filed by Prelude Corp of Westport Point, Massachusetts, alleging Russian trawlers damaged lobster gear off Nantucket.

Times stops articles on war court to rule Friday on loan

The New York Times halted publication of material from a secret Pentagon Viet Nam war study under a federal court restraining order. Judge Gurfein set a Friday hearing and refused to order surrender of documents. The Justice Department said publication could injure national defense. The Times argued the move was unconstitutional prior restraint and editorialized against censorship.

Record 438 degrees as 2000 attend LCCC commencement

Bolt hits tower delays Apollo 15 flight tests

CAPE KENNEDY (UPI) The Space Agency postponed the final 17 hours of flight-readiness tests on Apollo 15 to replace suspect equipment after lightning struck the 446 foot umbilical tower for the second night. Ground power lines were damaged, delaying tests but not the July 26 liftoff. Engineers planned to resume at midnight to verify all systems and ground support readiness.
