Rescue of 16 year old after contact with high voltage line
David Wells of Barnesville Ohio 16 center receives aid from Ohio Power Co employee William Plumly and Barnesville Police Chief Chris Ditto after he and a companion touched a 69 000 volt line while trying to scale an electrical tower. Plumly carried the youth to safety on his back then helped lower him by rope. Wells was flown to a Pittsburgh burn center for treatment.

Local service members complete trainings and promotions
Navy Seaman Recruit Timothy R. Jarvis, Olmsted Falls, completed recruit training at Great Lakes and is a 1978 Olmsted Falls High School graduate who joined in February. Marine Cpl Duane A. Hamilton, Grafton, joined Solid Shield exercises with the 8th Communications Battalion at Camp Lejeune. Stephen R. Dear, Bay Village, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after OTS at Lackland and heads to Williams AFB for pilot training. Airman Donald F. Corrin of Elyria and Airman Daniel D. Boone of Elyria West High School graduated from repair courses and will serve at Youngstown Airport and Travis AFB respectively. Daniel J. Molnar of Lorain promoted to airman first class at Ellsworth AFB. Marine Cpl Jeffrey D. Wagster of New London participated in General Omar Bradley funeral ceremonies. Marine Chief Warrant Officer David S. Simko of Sheffield Lake promoted at Camp Pendleton. Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Christopher L. Linn of Sheffield Lake graduated from Field Medical Service School.
