Oklahoma Badman Cook in Fresh Jail Breakout Hunt
U S and German police launched a massive chase for Homer Cook, the Oklahoma outlaw dubbed The Eel, after he smashed from Dauchau jail with bare hands. Bloodhounds tracked him through rain to a displaced persons camp near Dauchau as soldiers guarded every road. Cook, wearing only a shirt and one shoe, fled into the night amid gunfire and a guarded inquiry into the prison break.

Separate probe urged on Justice Department handling
The text describes pressure for a separate investigation into the Justice Department’s handling of a case. It notes the administration blocked a proposal, now awaiting a ruling by Vice President Alben W. Barkley. If Barkley sends it to the Judiciary committee a second inquiry seems likely, while referral to the Foreign Relations committee could halt further action as the subcommittee already studies the case.
