Ford to Build 365 Million Engine Plant in Mexico

Ford Motor Co announced plans to construct a 365 million engine plant in Mexico to produce a new family of four cylinder engines starting in 1984. The move, aimed at securing a larger share of the Mexican car market, was praised by labor leader Thurman Payne of UAW Local 1250 who said the Detroit announcement confirmed his expectations. The project is described as unrelated to Brook Park plant plans and may include retooling Engine Plant No. 2 for smaller engines.
