Ma Bell Ordered To Pay Record $1.8 Billion

A federal judge ordered AT&T to pay $1.8 billion after a jury found the company violated antitrust laws to monopolize long distance calls. MCI claimed ATT denied intracity connections 1969 to 1975, stunting MCI growth. the verdict allows treble damages. The jury, three months into trial, awarded $600 million to MCI and did not find discrimination in favor of Western Union nor undercut MCI with Telepak pricing.

Barbuto found guilty on two sex related counts

Summit County Probate Court Judge James Barbuto was convicted on two sex related charges gross sexual imposition and intimidation after a judge cleared him of seven counts of sexual bribery and two counts of obstructing justice. The verdict included a not guilty finding on attempted rape due to statute of limitations. Barbutto faces possible sentences up to 10 years for intimidation and up to six months for sexual imposition. Trial on six additional weapons related charges scheduled for June 23.

37 file TDI claims hit Fisher Body Elyria plant

Thirty seven current and former Fisher Body Elyria employees filed workers compensation claims with the Ohio Industrial Commission over allergic reactions to toluene di-isocyanate used in foam padding at the plant.
