Staff treat 28,000+ yearly ER patients, with about 10 percent admitted, while the waiting area hosts worried relatives and sobbing friends amid crowded conditions and a three-room setup.
A high speed one car crash on West River Street left two dead and four injured. The victims were returning from a shopping trip to Elyria City Family Discount Center when the car left a curve near Third Street and struck a tree at about 7 45 p m. Eight year old Azell Tarrant and Paul Beckwith died of internal injuries. Injured were Linda Tarrant 15 Susan Tarrant 17 Ezelia Davis 23 and driver Ronald Tarrant 21. The Tarrants are Herman Tarrant and Etella Davis relatives. The car was demolished and occupants were trapped for about 35 minutes.
Tricia Nixon married Edward Finch Cox outdoors in the White House rose garden amid 400 guests after a 40 minute rain delay. The couple exchanged vows at 4 48 p.m. EDT with President Nixon kissing his daughter as Rev. Dr. Edward G. Latch officiated.
The 18 minute outdoor ceremony at the White House faced a drizzle but proceeded as Tricia Nixon Cox married Edward Cox on a white carpet. President Nixon and guests, including Billy Graham and Martha Mitchell, braved the rain for a champagne reception as officials praised the couple. Tricia wore a Priscilla of Boston gown and the weather prompted remarks about contingency plans.

A Lake Erie coastal wind pattern shows 10 to 18 knot southwest winds. A vehicle traveling north on West River Street at about 7 45 p m left the road, struck a guard rail and a maple tree, narrowly missing two children on a lawn before a collision. The bodies of 8 year old Terrence Shannon and 5 year old Tajanra Shannon were found in an abandoned freezer in the basement of their Lorain home. Police found them at 1:15 p.m. after an all morning search. Autopsy to determine cause of death. The mother, Helen Shannon, reported them missing at 12:06 a.m. and a 16 year old babysitter had said the children were with a neighbor earlier.
