Passenger slain in Chicago hijack airliner to New York
A Trans World Airlines Boeing 727 was hijacked at O Hare by Gregory White demanding to go to North Vietnam and 75,000 dollars. A deputy marshal crawled into the cockpit during takeoff, firing twice as the hijacker was repelled. One passenger, Howard Franks of Darien CT, was killed during the struggle. The hijacker was wounded, captured at Kennedy Airport, and jailed in Chicago.

Pact ends building laborers strike in Ohio
The AFL-CIO Local 758 ended a week-long walkout of about 700 workers after reaching a contract with the Ohio Contractors Association. The accord, retroactive to June 1 and expiring April 30, 1972, includes a base wage rise to 7.38 and a 60 cent total increase with health and welfare adjustments. The union, led by James Byrd, approved by the bargaining committee without a member vote, and no pickets will occur unless duties are unperformed.

Car Hits Herd of Horses Killing Five Near Oberlin
A Wake man, Emil Gemmel, struck a herd of five animals on Route 90 east of Route 511 at 12:55 this morning, killing a registered Appaloosa stallion and four ponies. The herd belonged to Roy Cain and had been released by thieves who cut the pasture fence and fled with a rototiller. No citation issued as deputies investigated road clearance and value.

Attempt to saw way out of county jail thwarted
Lorain County deputies thwarted an escape plan as prisoners tried to saw through cell ceilings at the county jail during overnight lockup. A hacksaw blade fragment was found hidden in a toothpaste tube and another piece in a cell. Suspects were William C Bruce Rob ert N Piper and Robert D Welch.

Jail inmates charged with armed robbery held as saw blade mystery unfolds
Winchell H Moon and Michael Rios, both Lorain residents aged 30 and 19, remain jailed on armed robbery charges in cell seven where a metal ceiling had been saved from damage.
