Judge in Bell strike ends nationwide CWA action
A federal judge's decision led the Communications Workers of America to call off the statewide strike against Ohio Bell Telephone Co. Some 21,000 workers will return to their jobs Monday. Battisti's temporary restraining order was cited as maintaining the contract status quo. The strike began May 28 in Cleveland over Bell's use of service reps assembling phones at a new East Cleveland store. Bell will staff with installers and repairmen or close the store as ordered and continue talks with the union to resolve the dispute.
